Well, I am feeling better today and do you know what that means? Time to work on the shack/office! So I got to work building my workbench! All of my wood I had cut when I bought it from Lowes, so all I have to do is get it put it together...Shouldn't be too hard, right? I hope not!
Y'all are supposed to wish me luck! What happened?! I went to work last night, came home for lunch to feed Layla and myself, went back to work, and just before I got off for the night I sick... We are talking vomit-type-sick!
I got home and did not have the energy nor did I feel well enough to finish my work.
Today around 1430, the XYL came home... And saw my mess (my desk and paperwork and QSL cards, radios, computers cables, etc.) all over her kitchen, hallway, and living room. She was not exactly thrilled with me. Hopefully she will still love me and be kind to me until I get things finished. Shouldn't be more than a week or so to finish everything.....
Hope you are doing well! I am.....minus the bruises and cuts on my hands and arms. I have started a new project!
Some of you may have noticed that I have not been on the air much in the past few months. My brother has been staying with us and staying in my office/shack/dog-house. Well he has moved on, so it is time for me to get in there, clean up, rearrange, etc.
Got rid of the futon. Ripped up the carpet from that side of the room. clean out my desk, table, closet, and drawers. Time to clear out and reorganize!
Hello, everyone! If you didn't know, my little family and I are avid geocachers (more about geocaching can be found on my Geocaching Adventures page) and I am subscribed to a few geocaching channels on YouTube. One of which is The Geocaching Vlogger! Recently Joshua the Geocaching Vlogger started a contest to go along with Geocaching.com's 15 Years of Geocaching. He would choose 2 winners to receive a 15 Years of Geocaching geocoin..........And I was one of those winners!!!
And take a guess as to what came in the mail today.......... My 15 Years of Geocaching geocoin!!!!!
Go visit my Geocaching Adventures page for more info and a chance to log a discovery of my newest geocoin!
Well, not too long ago I got a small package from the ARRL... I looked at it thinking to myself, "What did I order? What did I order?" But I didn't open and look at it then. I was late to work so I just left it in my jeep and went to work. A few weeks went by and I remembered I had it. So I opened it up and look what I got............. I got a present! A present for operating W1AW/5 LA!!! That was so nice of them! I had no idea this was going to be coming!
The gift is a beautiful plexiglass stand engraved with "KG5AGP was W1AW/5 LA"! The stabs itself is a shadow box type stand with bronze looking accent work. It is holding 2 challenge coins! One for W1AW and another for the ARRL Centennial! It's beautiful! Check it out below!
Well, I am slowly getting the parts needed to complete my APRS tracker for the Weather Balloon experiment! I am building a TrackUino APRS tracker. Thanks to generous donations from the members of the CenturyLink Employees' Amateur Radio Club I am getting close to completion. I was able to order a few parts (pic1 below) and so far CLEARC has gotten me some of the more pricey parts (pic2 below). All that is left now are the $40+ parts such as the actual transmitter, gps chip, sports cam, and 2x Canon A570IS cameras. Oh and we need the balloon and parachute. That is ALL that remains!!! Hopefully here soon I will have the rest of what is needed and get this HAB in the air! Stay tuned for more updates as I build the board, run tests, and eventually launch this experiment.
We all started our HAM journey thanks to our caring, teaching, giving Elmers. And we have all gotten that call from them along us to come help with something or another...... right? Well the best part is sometimes you get a reward for helping! Just as I did today. Went to help my Elmer (KE5WFA) relocate a Hustler 6-BTV vertical antenna. He had both a 5 & 6 BTV and was relocating the 6-BTV. When we finished he asked me, "Now what an I going to do with this 5-BTV?" I simply shrugged my shoulders and continued cleaning up. It was at this time that he told me to break it down and go put it in my Jeep. Heck Yeah!!! Granted she needs a little TLC, but hey... gives me a project that keeps me out of my XYL's kitchen and out of trouble!
Mr. Bill, if you are reading this... Thank you again! It is very much appreciated!!!
What is HAB you ask? High Altitude Ballooning! IE: Weather Ballooning!!!
I overheard a fellow HAM operator talking about a weather balloon...And it brought back some old childhood wishes/feelings/desires/dreams...I was kind of sad there for a good minute; realizing that I have not achieved any of those dreams... It really sucked... So I started doing some research. I never knew the things that could be done with HAM radio and HAB... It really excited me! I never knew that my becoming an amateur radio operator could open up such a HUGE window for me and the dreams I was never able to accomplish...
Remember that award I applied for on my birthday? It came in the mail today!
Sorry the post is so short.......Battling a migraine and have to get ready for my Aunt's funeral.....
Went to the mail box to send off some QSL cards and realize I had yet to check my incoming mail for the past few days... So I open the box and there is a large manilla envelope from KF7BA... What is this?! Got back to the house..........opened the package up (which was NOT an easy task! the sticky part was sealed, the prongs were thru the eye and closed down, and there was a thick, wide piece of tape across the top! guess what is in there is important!).......... And what was in there?! ANOTHER OMISS AWARD!!! Talk about being excited!!! I got the OMISS Millionaires Club $750k award with a few endorsements... I have a pic below, but head on over to THIS page and check out ALL of the awards I have from the Old Man International Sideband Society!
